Looking up

I feel things are on the improve.

I've been on anti-depressants for a little over a month now and am feeling so much better.  I got myself a pill case, so as well as taking anti-depressants I'm also taking a multivitamin and Vitamin D every day.  So maybe everything all together is good for me.  I'm getting my RLS under control too.  Exercise is still quite haphazard.  Guilt is a HUGE.  I can't seem to get there.  The thought of finishing work, going to the gym which takes approx one hour inc changing time and then collect the boys, then home and do the washing, get dinner, clean up, bath and bed the boys, encourage Mark to do something.  ETC ETC ETC well there just isn't enough time when I'm not getting home until 6.30pm.  I just can't go early.  That is just does not work for me.

Have set up a new blog for planning for Christmas.  Its here.

Some recent pictures..

STRANGE THINGS............about the computer.

This is just a little bit of randomness...

Jamie always types in the full URL, even if the one he is looking for pops up as a suggestion.  Drives me bonkers.

After living in Melbourne for the past 18 months, I have have the Newcastle tv guide as our computer based tv guide, everytime I open it up (from the bookmarks), I have to then click on home - Melbourne and so it goes through three screens to get to the page I want.  But for some reason I don't actually want to change it.

Jamie has over 30,000 emails stored on this computer and I don't think he's got a back up.  He won't delete the trash - just in case.

Our computer NEVER gets turned off.

We run Linux - not Windows, not apple.  But the nerd operating system that is Linux and I can't install anything.

I don't know how to watch a movie or tv show online.  I feel that makes me very backward.

Following rules - is it really that hard?

A little something that has been bothering me for some time now.  Its the modern way, "surely they are not talking to me?" that the world seems to think.

What is it I'm talking about.

Mobile phones!

I'm as addicted as the next person (as is evident by my data usage on my smart phone), but I don't use it when driving, at a petrol station or on a plane.  To be completely truthful, I don't believe that there is a problem to use a phone on a plane or at the petrol station, but they ask you not to, so I don't.

On the other hand I do think there is a problem when using a phone when driving (not sitting at traffic lights, but that's another story), so not since 2002 have I used a mobile whilst driving.  The time I did use it was in a traffic jam along Mickleham Road.  It was inching traffic, took half an hour to go 1km and I had a chat to my mum.  When the traffic sped up a police car was next to me, told me never to use my phone again and I haven't!

This past weekend Jamie and I flew to Newcastle for the weekend.  We both turned our phones to flight mode and had them off before we got on.  Like they ask you to.  Anyone who knows Jamie realises this is a big deal for him to turn it off.  But he always does.  Doesn't look like many others follow suit.  The number of people texting whilst on the plane is just flabbergasting.  Text messages going off the whole flight, *they don't even make it silent* , even when directly asked to turn off the phone, they just glare and put it in their pocket - not off.

Like I say, I can't think that there would be a problem, but they ask you to turn it off, so for 1.5 hours can it be off??  Can it?

I don't believe there is a need to turn it off at the Medicare office or in hospitals (maybe if you were in ICU) or at your GPs office.  We have huge signs at my work saying *Please turn off your phone it interferes with the sensitive medical equipment*  and everyone in the waiting room is on their mobiles.  Go for it guys.

Ryanisms

"I'm not happy"
"I need a big milk"
"I need the blue one" in regards to the colour of his cup
"Benny needs you"
"I don't like it" in regards to anything that resembles healthy food.

STUCK

After a long time, Ryan is finally talking.  We have discovered he is a complete chatterbox with his volume set to 11.  On the way home from daycare in the car from the back seat I heard.

"Stuck, stuck, stuck"

"What's stuck Ryan?"

"ME"

Well duh, that is kind of the idea.

Sometimes things just happen

And you haven't made a conscious decision about it.
Take Ryan for example: he now only gas one nap! Surprisingly this works.  I don't recall thinking the two.naps are gonna be over soon.
And take Ben: all of a sudden I was carrying him on my hip, not in my arms.....
Weird.

Why do things have to change?  Blogger looks different and I don't like it.

Weddings.

I'm sitting here watching "The View" and they are having a wedding special at the moment. Yesterday there was a funny Facebook discussion about weddings and bridesmaids. Which got me thinking about my wedding/marriage.

Jamie and I have been married now for 20 months. We got married at the registry office, only witnessed by the Drane family. I don't regret for a second the way we did it, but do wish our families had have been there.

I never EVER dreamed of a big white fluffy wedding. From early days of thinking about being married it turned my stomach. I didn't like the idea of being the centre of attention, I had a major blushing issue, I can't dance, and the kicker, I take a horrible photo (ie I look dreadful in photos)

I think the main reason Jamie and I took so long to get married was the thought of a wedding. Neither of us liked the idea of it. He's MUCH worse than me for centre of attention issues.

We were very lucky that both of our sisters did the "Big White Wedding". Jocelyn got our side of the family done, Connie did Jamie's side. The aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents all got to see what they needed to see. Ours was not necessary.

We had been together for 9 years, living together for 8. We already had Mark and Ryan was on the way. We didn't need gifts, we don't like parties all that much. We were very happy with our super low key registry office marriage.

When we are about 50, Mark will be 25, Ryan will be 13 and Ben will be 12, I think we can have a second wedding then with all the bells and whistles. We'll be happier in our own skin, it'll be fun. Maybe even do it in Fiji.

Funny story (and thank goodess I'm a trusting wife)

So yesterday was an extremely busy day for us.

Lots of football issues to be fixed and Jamie had a job with his computer fixit company (he fixes people's computers onsite for them). Prior to the job he had to collect his umpire uniform. So off he went to get the uniform, and in the process had forgotten his job clipboard, so had to return home to get it.

Very close to our house he spotted a hitch hiker (very very strange as we live in a quiet suburb with two roads in and two roads out - local traffic only), as he pulled up, the woman came over and asked if he was going to town. As he sort of was, he offered to give her a lift (after he collected his clipboard). Mark spotted him out the window and asked me "Who's in the car with Jamie".... "I don't know" and didn't give it another thought.

Later in the evening he told me about it. She started chatting to him, asked him what he was doing as it looked like he was working. He said that he was and it surprised him as he normally didn't get much work on the weekend. She said she gets much more work on the weekend. Jamie asked "What do you do?"
"Oh, I'm a street prostitute!"
Now this is why I love this man, he told me, I didn't want to offend her by reacting, so tried my hardest not to... he asked her what their situation was with the police, and they had an intelligent conversation until he dropped her off.

I'm so pleased that I fully trust him and am not the slightest bit worried that he "used her services"

So its true, my 4WD which has two baby car seats in the back was sat in by a street prostitute that my husband picked up!

Are you **bleeping** serious???

I wanted to write the heading using the "real" word, but my parents and parents-in-law sometimes read this blog, so I must pretend I'm ladylike.

I know that I'm very lucky to be receiving any money for being on maternity leave. Millions do not get any money at all, women throughout history were not paid to have babies. But I live in a society that does, I am lucky enough to get paid maternity leave both from my employer and the government, so I'm allowed to complain about my "FIRST WORLD PROBLEM"

I get 13 weeks of paid maternity leave at full time rates from my employer, I've chosen to take this as 26 weeks at half pay, I've been on that for two months now.

My paid parental leave from the government came into my bank account today. If you actually go to the website, it says:

The Paid Parental Leave scheme:

  • is government funded
  • is for eligible working parents
  • can be transferred to the other parent
  • is paid at the National Minimum Wage - currently $570 a week before tax*
  • is for up to 18 weeks, and
  • can be taken any time within the first year after birth or adoption.
Do you see the dollar amount, $520 (yes it does say before tax).

So what the freaking hell is my tax bracket. I got $302 into my bank account. Which says to me, they have withheld $218 in tax... that is bloody lot of tax if you ask me.

BUT

She then calls Centrelink to check. Its my quarterly Childcare Rebate. So its all good. They haven't finalised the Paid Parental Leave stuff yet.

I'm such an idiot.

Especially as I've burned three cupcakes due to writing this rant.

Seriously!

Why does Jamie have to use a telephone?

He talks so incredibly loud that the person on the other end of the phone doesn't actually need to use the phone, they can hear him.

And he walks whilst talking.

Now fast forward a generation.

Little Ryan holds a telephone to his ear, walks around and and babbles LOUDLY into the phone.

A repeat of his father - yes.

Just a little personal

But as the topic of the last couple of posts was about childbirth, I'm sure this is pretty tame!

I hate my maternity bras. They just aren't doing the job well enough. Yes they are pretty, but I'm not being "put" where I'm supposed to be.

Critters

As most would know, we are the owners of two dogs. We got Charlie (the lab) as

a puppy back in 2001. The reason: I've been totally phobic of dogs my whole life, it stemmed from when I was about 2yrs old and was bitten by a dog at a house where mum was babysitting, I was also scratched by a German Shepherd when i was 6. These two incidences, coupled with my parents dislike of dogs compounded on me to be point of phobia. I would prefer to walk down the middle of a street rather than next to fences in case there was a dog. This is a trait I still possess. I won't walk down new streets without being on guard. I will definitely never walk the dogs down a new street just in case there is another dog to bark at us. It was a scary childhood, living in fear of a dog attack.

When Mark was about 3 years old. He was very jumpy around dogs. He wouldn't go up to dogs, something I encouraged because of the danger of the animals. Jamie told me this is ridiculous, he can't grow up like this, LIKE YOU! So with encouragement I agreed to get a puppy, and the nicest dog I could think of was a lab. She was adorable, I was a little wary to start with, so was Mark. Started by looking through the glass sliding doors and ended up snoozing together. Lots of photos of his early childhood - when we lived in Tullamarine of Mark and Charlie together. Then we moved to Newcastle, got a rental which didn't allow dogs inside. Poor things have been outside dogs ever since.... So how did we end up with two dogs. In my new grad year, one of the nurses I worked with had a biggish dog that was lovely and they were moving to a small apartment in Sydney and couldn't keep Skye. I knew Charlie was lonely with us either at work or at school, so we quickly adopted Skye and he's been in our family for almost 7 years now. They are both quite middle aged in their temperament, which is good for us. They are great at being a doorbell and letting me know when it is 5pm (Charlie starts barking for food). Once these two leave our family, I will not have another dog. It prevents you from going on holidays, and we are just not pet people the way others are.

I'm not really fond of any animal, small things scare the bejesus out of me. Mice, lizards, bugs and this week we even had a frog in the back yard. There was a turtle in my driveway once, I called animal rescue (should the dogs attack it) and they said to pick it up and take it to the Wetland Centre... no bloody way am I picking up a turtle. I don't touch animals. Cats I don't care for. Our friend's son wanted me to pat their cat... ummm no thanks. Ferrets - ick.

Chickens scare me, but I want them for eggs when I get my farmlet along with some sheep or goats. They can be ignored and fed each day. I don't need to feel guilty if I don't walk or play with them.

The highs and lows of Centrelink

A totally necessary evil. Very happy to have them on board for my Paid Parental Leave.

As some may know, I filled in the online form for PPL, at the end it said that I had to take my Proof of Citizenship to the Wallsend office of Centrelink.

Let me get this straight (whilst I hang my head in shame for some of it), I have been on the dole, single parent pension, baby bonus, child care allowance and probably some family tax benefit somewhere along the line since about 1997 (the earliest I can remember). I had to show complete proof of identity when I first applied.

I have had the same Customer Reference Number, I have updated my details whenever necessary.

So why, when applying for PPL do I need to bundle up my toddler, get in the car and drive to Centrelink to show a form that most likely they have seen before. Even the dude behind the desk, said "well this doesn't make much sense, but I'll photocopy it anyway" He was almost going to ask for the original when I had a fully certified copy. I have been an Australian Citizen since 1984. Never changed, probably never will. Just a strange over the top system.

Oh and hooray, I have to go back with proof of birth to actually start getting my money. Gee I hope I can send someone for that!

Justice according to a 12 yo.

I have only "sort of" following the story of Keli Lane murdering her daughter Tegan, you can read a 7.30 Report story about it here.

This morning during the news, they reported that Keli will be spending Christmas in jail because she was found guilty of the murder yesterday.

Mark then said "Oh that's sad, she'll in jail for Christmas"
Me: "But she murdered her baby daughter"
Mark: "But that was in 1994!"
Me: "It doesn't matter how long ago...."

He then lost interest in the conversation and went back to playing with his baby brother.

BUT, isn't that interesting. If something happens 14 years ago, he doesn't think she should be punished. Or is it that he doesn't understand what the report was saying and only heard "jail for Christmas" I just found it quite fascinating.

An update.

Its been a while, but if you want to really know what is going on in my life, I live on Facebook.

I'm not sure what is happening to me.

We have a new doctor at work. Lets call her "Sarah" (as that is her name)

Well I was having a conversation with her a couple of weeks ago, and - this is where it gets a bit weird - I couldn't quite concentrate as she has amazing breasts. I felt I became a bit of a man not looking at a person's face, but their chest. She did not appear to notice so I thought I was off the hook.

Then about a week later one of the other nurses, Sarah and I were having a bit of bitch about one of the other doctors who thinks she is VERY hot, but she is NOT hot at all. It was raised that this doctor was probably late as she was pushing her boobs up so more people could see them (I did say it was a bitch), well I felt the need to mention to Sarah "I just have to say, your boobs are amazing and I apologise for staring the other day"
"Not to worry" she said "They're fake"
OMG you could have knocked me over with a feather, I didn't know real people did that. The other nurse happened to have had a reduction!

Then a couple of days ago. Mark and I were at Jesmond and there was a pregnant woman, also with largish breasts. Once again, I was slightly distracted by the breasts. From behind I thought I recognised the husband as a friend of Jamie's from his cricket team, but I wasn't sure. So once I got home, I asked if Adam's wife was pregnant again, jamie asked why. I had to explain why I thought this, and Jamie's response was "OH you and the boobs AGAIN".

So today, Jamie told the story about Sarah from work to a bloke from his work. Now he wants to visit my work and have a good old perve.

I'm officially....

in love

with my nephew.

Check out the latest photos of Roy here.

YAY, June will be over in 7 hours. What a disastrous month for my family.
